These past few days have been very busy, but also tiresome. That is why I haven't written for a few days. Sunday was kind of a lazy, catch up day. We walked around and explored the area of Chengdu that we were in. It was pretty awesome when we stumbled upon a little market. There were lots of fruits, nuts, vegetables…and meat. The meat! Oh my goodness! Any kind that you could ever imagine, and every part of an animal that you could ever want (or not). People in China eat everything. I saw goat heads. Goat. Heads. And the internal organs of every animal were out on display. I don't know much about sanitary standards, but I am pretty sure that the health department in the U.S. would freak. And for all you vegetarian animal-rights activists out there, you may want to stay far away! But it was still really cool just to be so enveloped in the Chinese culture.
Monday we got to go see the panda research center. They were all so cute and lazy. They were total celebrities and they knew it too! Did you know that there are only 2000 pandas left in the wild? That is why what they are doing in Chengdu is so important! It was really cool to see. After the pandas, we visited the traditional style district known as Jingli street. I bought a silk night gown. It is super comfy so I am really happy with it! They also had a Starbucks which was amazing! It was kinda funny seeing a traditional background against such a global brand. That day we also got to go to a Tibetan restaurant. The yak dishes were delicious! The yak butter tea…not so much. But that's ok because it was still cool to experience the Tibetan culture. Later that night, we also got to go see the Sichuan opera changing faces show. It was very entertaining. They had fire blowing, shadow puppets, and many traditional Sichuan outfits on display.
Wow that really was quite a day! With that I am off to bed…all this excitement is making me get a little headache. More to come. Stay tuned!
