Being in the bustling city center of Chengdu is great and we are right in the middle of all the action. The smells of spicy food and bakeries are on each block on our way to class. Today in class we learned about the four other zang organs: the lungs, spleen, liver, and kidneys. In Traditional Chinese Medicine the lung system controls the dispersion and descending of qi, the liver system regulates and stores blood, the spleen governs the transportation and transformation of blood and qi, and the kidney system stores the essence and governs water. These are different concepts than we have all learned at PLU, but we are beginning to appreciate the differences. Our second lecture consisted of the listening/smelling and inquiry of the patients symptoms aspects of the general examination in TCM. Lunch was another adventure of exploring the Chinese cuisine. Some of us found a traditional Sichuan restaurant and had a flavorful eggplant dish and prok and green peppers. Today was a great learning experience with many more to come!
