Tui Na and Tex Mex

Thursday January 13th, 2011

Today the group had its first lesson on Tui Na Techniques and Manipulations with Professor Peng De Zhong. Tui Na is a specific branch of massage which can be used for either relaxation or manipulation. A person practicing Tui Na uses their fingers, especially their thumb, knuckles, forearms and elbows to reach the desired manipulating or relaxing effects. Duing a Tui Na massage a person might feel a little pain and is encouraged to drink a cup of warm water or tea after the massage or take a warm shower, in order to rid the body of all of the toxins. Also our professor told us not to give a massage when the person receiving the massage is drunk. Some of the basic prinicples of Tui Na is to have strong force during the massage and to make sure to do techniques that can be continued for long periods of time. Also a person must keep the pressure of their hands consistent and use gentle and fluid movements between techniques. It is also extremely important for the person giving the massage to have proper technique and concentration. After learning about the basic prinicples of massage our class was able to practice the various learned techniques on each other.

After our classes for the day were done our class decided to make a group trip to a restaurant called Tex Mex. Many class members had been missing American food and this was one way to soothe their longings. Tex Mex had a mixture of popular Mexican and American dishes. They also had shakes, ice cream and cheesecake. The most popular drink of the night was the chocolate peanutbutter milkshake (recommended by myself). Our group left the restaurant with fully tummys and big smiles. It was a great way to end the night.
